## 📧 Email Configuration

All notifications use Laravel's built-in mail system. They implement `ShouldQueue` to process emails in the background.

### **Mail Settings in `.env`:**
```env
MAIL_MAILER=smtp
MAIL_HOST=smtp.mailtrap.io  # or your SMTP server
MAIL_PORT=2525
MAIL_USERNAME=null
MAIL_PASSWORD=null
MAIL_ENCRYPTION=null
MAIL_FROM_ADDRESS="noreply@bookrah.com"
MAIL_FROM_NAME="${APP_NAME}"
```

### **Queue Configuration (Recommended for Production):**
```env
QUEUE_CONNECTION=database
```

Run queue worker:
```bash
php artisan queue:work
```

---

## 🎨 Email Templates

All emails use Laravel's Markdown mail format with:
- ✅ Professional subject lines with emojis
- ✅ Personalized greetings
- ✅ Clear call-to-action buttons
- ✅ Detailed information display
- ✅ Branding (Bookrah Team signature)

### **Example Email (Payment Successful):**
```
Subject: ✅ Payment Successful - Bookrah Subscription
Hello John Doe!
Your payment has been successfully processed.
**Payment Details:**
Amount: USD 99.00
Date: February 8, 2026
Your subscription continues to be active. Thank you for being a valued customer!
## 🧪 Testing Email Notifications
### **1. Test with Stripe CLI:**
```bash
# Test subscription created
stripe trigger customer.subscription.created

# Test payment successful
stripe trigger invoice.paid

# Test payment failed
stripe trigger invoice.payment_failed

# Test upcoming renewal
stripe trigger invoice.upcoming
```
### **2. Test Webhook Endpoint:**
```bash
# Forward webhooks to localhost
stripe listen --forward-to localhost/api/v1/stripe/webhook

# Check your email after triggering events
```
### **3. Preview Emails without Sending:**
Create a test route:
```php
Route::get('/test-email', function () {
    $user = auth()->user();
    $user->notify(new \App\Notifications\SubscriptionStartedNotification(
        \App\Models\SubscriptionPlan::first()
    ));
    return 'Email sent! Check your inbox.';
});
```
### **4. Use Mailpit/Mailhog for Local Testing:**
```bash
# Install Mailpit
brew install mailpit

# Run Mailpit
mailpit

# Update .env
MAIL_HOST=localhost
MAIL_PORT=1025
MAIL_ENCRYPTION=null
```
---
## 🔧 Customization
### **Change Email Content:**
Edit the notification class, e.g.:
```php
// app/Notifications/PaymentSuccessfulNotification.php
public function toMail(object $notifiable): MailMessage
{
    return (new MailMessage)
        ->subject('Your Custom Subject')
        ->line('Your custom message')
        ->action('Button Text', url('/your-link'));
}
```
### **Add More Notification Channels:**
```php
public function via(object $notifiable): array
{
    return ['mail', 'database', 'broadcast']; // Add channels
}
```
### **Customize per Environment:**
```php
// Only send in production
if (app()->environment('production')) {
    $user->notify($notification);
}
```
---
## 📊 Email Logging
All emails are logged to help with debugging:
```php
Log::info('Upcoming renewal notification sent', [
    'user_id' => $user->id,
    'amount' => $amount,
]);
```
View logs:
```bash
tail -f storage/logs/laravel.log | grep "notification"
```
---
